Examples of where you might find concrete:

  • Floors
  • Walls
  • Countertops and other work surfaces

Notes about the surface:

  • Acid can corrode concrete.
  • Unsealed concrete is a porous surface and can be difficult to clean and sanitize.
  • Rough and porous surfaces should be given a smooth finish. You can use an approved coating to make the concrete surface cleanable.
  • Unsealed concrete is not recommended for food contact surfaces.
  • Sealed concrete may be non-porous but only when sealant is applied and maintained properly.
  • Work with a concrete sealant manufacturer to choose the appropriate product for your operation.
  • If sealed concrete will be used as a food contact surface, be sure to use a food-safe sealant.
